Music Moves for Piano one hour partner lessons build upon the preparatory audiation developed in the Keyboard Games classes. They are best for children ages 6 and up, as well as adolescents and adults. They are often partner lessons with two students in the same class, but individual lessons can also be arranged.
Once the student is audiating, they are ready to start formal instruction. We use the Music Moves for Piano books starting with Book 1 and advancing through Book 5, as well as including repertoire pieces outside of the books when the student is ready.
We start class with Activity Time as we continue to grow our tonal and rhythm vocabularies and we use solfege syllables (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti) and rhythm syllables (Du-De, Du-da-di) to help us understand what’s going on musically. We echo same patterns and we learn to create our own patterns that are different from the one we just heard. Then we bring all of this audiation to the keyboard as we learn performance pieces, creativity and improvisation, cadences, arpeggios, scales, and go further with our improvisations to include medleys, mash-ups and arrangements.
