Music Moves for Piano one hour lessons build upon the preparatory audiation developed in the Keyboard Games classes. They are best for children ages 6 and up, as well as adolescents and adults. They are often partner lessons with two students in the same class, but individual lessons can also be arranged. We use the Music Moves for Piano Books 1-5 and introduce repertoire pieces outside of the books when ready.
We start class with Activity Time as we continue to grow our tonal and rhythm vocabularies and we use solfege syllables (Do, Re, Mi…) and rhythm syllables (Du-De, Du-da-di) to help us understand what’s going on musically. We echo same patterns and we learn to create our own patterns that are different from the one we just heard. Then we bring all of this audiation to the keyboard as we learn performance pieces, do some creativity and improvisation, cadences, arpeggios, scales, and go further with our creativity to include medleys, mash-ups and arrangements.
Our studio uses a fixed monthly payment which is calculated by adding up the following items and dividing it by 10 (months in the academic year):
1. Weekly classes from September-June that take into account the school holidays. For the 2024-2025 academic year Mondays will have a total of 32 classes, and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays will have a total of 36 classes. This comes out to an average of about 3.5 classes per month.
2. Books and materials. We take care of ordering and shipping any books you will need so you don’t have to worry about it!
3. Administrative fees that include scheduling, communication, progress meetings (as needed), coordinating payment, etc.
4. Audio recordings of all of the pieces in Music Moves for Piano Books 1-5, as well as tonal and rhythm pattern recordings.
